Robert Combas
Robert Combas was born in Lyon in 1957. He lives and works in the Île-de-France (Paris) region. After studying at The Montpellier School of Art, he defined his own artistic style in opposition to conceptual art at the time. After Robert received his diploma in 1979, the curator of The Museum in Saint-Etienne, Bernard Ceysson offered to present his paintings as part of an exhibition entitled “After classicism”. He was part of the birth of the “Figuration Libre” movement in the 1980s, alongside Blanchard, Blais, Alberola, Laget, Viollet and Di Rosa. In 1987, Robert Combas fell in love with Geneviève, who became his muse. In 2010, the artist had the honour of being included in the Lacan collection. Today, he is listed in the Artprice ranking as one of the 500 most highly-acclaimed artists in the world and the number 1 selling artist in France.
