Luco Cormerais
Luco Cormerais, born in 1961 in Nantes, France. After classical studies, he moved to French Polynesia in 1991 where he developed his work as a sculptor. It is the metaphor of writing that the works on kraft paper appeal to, with their cuts and bristles. Luco Cormerais continues his investigations into communication to the point of compulsion. The support is envisaged as a three-dimensional surface, as were the Mesopotamian clay tablets. The signs are calibrated, aligned, always presented in the same direction, apparently offering all the characteristic features of written syntax, with its redundancies. In the final analysis, the theory of the sign as developed by Luco Cormerais is of a ternary character, the sign belonging to three domains: that of images, where it represents itself and which requires its knowledge as a sign; that of the content it conveys and its difference from the thing signified; these two domains, finally, are closely associated by a network of similarities, the existence of shared conventions which link them together.
Luco Cormerais
The matter is understood, the gesture of Luco Cormerais consists of creating a link between the sculptor and the “viewer”.
