Nolwenn Samson
Self-taught in every way, with the exception of a stint on the benches of a school of applied arts in Marseille where she rubbed shoulders with the joys of illustration and graphic design, Nolwenn Samson expresses herself today in acrylics, inks, resins and markers. Naive, trashy, angry and above all very feminine, her artistic impulses are revealed and experimented on large formats. Scenes saturated with impacts, off-centered chromes for wide-open eyes... The painter from Salon de Provence recounts the rises and descents of intrepid blondes, grappling with handsome, agitated bearded brown-haired men. Characters whose moods oscillate between revolvers, mottos and strong quotes, under the gaze of an amused domestic bestiary: “with a mother who taught dance and a father who had created a photo lab where I spent my days, I found myself carried away from childhood by dense creative flows, between images, new music and ballet.” In progress and constantly in motion, the work of Nolwenn Samson evokes Basquiat, Keith Haring, Warhol but also the best sallies from street art or the cinematic rhythms of Tarantino and Kitano, direct influences of the painter.
Nolwenn Samson
“I have long thought that painting came to me naturally, almost innately. It is strange to think that my subjects, my compositions and their plastic arrangements may not be directly influenced by an experience.”
