Jean-Pierre Formica
Born in 1946 in Uchaud, Jean-Pierre Formica lives and works between Paris and Arles. In his work as a painter, Jean-Pierre Formica digs, thanks to his mastery of incision, this visible layer then the previous layers using a cutter. For him it is not to make an iconoclastic gesture, neither to attack nor to erase but, on the contrary, to manifest - to update - through these sedimentations, the true nature of his painting. Thanks to these tearings, arise outpourings of colors, multiple sources crossing as much the sky as the earth, the fabrics as the bodies which carry them, the illustrious or the anonymous. Coming from the bottom of the pictorial plane, through openings similar to notches, open skins, the colors invade the painting with a recurring rhythm. They transform the surface into sculpted matter generating a starry, constellated reality, a substance returned, by this work, to its true space, that of the cosmos and time. he takes us into forests strewn with colors, not to reduce our space, but on the contrary, to reverse it, free it with intoxication. In the diversity of his work as a painter, draftsman and sculptor, the work is in no way dissociated from the "Forms". “ This possession of the form is dictated by a physical continuity. It is not the realistic element that is essential but memory. During this process, the physical gesture imposes itself as a questioning and a dialogue between the nature of things and a certain abstraction – like a game.” These movements interpenetrate or sometimes juxtapose.

"I am always between two worlds that are stratified, and the other is in the making." Jean-Pierre Formica
