Arman

Arman was born in Nice, France in 1928 he died in 2005 in New York. In the 1960s he founded the "New Realists" group, with friend Yves Klein and other artists including Ce?sar and Niki de Saint Phalle. A painter and sculptor he was most well known for his accumulations of objects. His accumulations of objects highlighted the perishable nature of products in a society of abundance and became his hallmark. He also sliced, burnt and smashed objects such as musical instruments and furniture in his performances. Arman’s sculptures lent new dimensions to objects that were already perfect as they were. His works featured in a total of almost 11 500 exhibitions in his lifetime. In addition to being well represented in museums around the world, he also created many works of art for public spaces.
